2020 – best laid plans and all that ….
Wow! What a colossal year 2020 turned out to be. It was always going to be a big year of change -. I’d already planned to close my clothing boutique, Amulet, in Jan 2020. I’d built Amulet up from a stall inside a shopping centre in 2008 into an award winning boutique. It’s how I’d managed to raise 2 children on my own. Closing it was a big deal.
Life after Amulet was going to be a head long dive into lots of exciting new ventures:
In March, my business partner Catrin and I were due to launch our first 100% natural origin perfume Jones & Modha. We were excited to already have some big orders in the pipeline.
I had signed up for several Bristol Arts trails and was relishing the idea of releasing my artwork into the world.
I had a vague notion that I might start building websites again - this had been my career BC (before children).
On top of that, (because I wasn’t completely ready to turn my back on Amulet and the world of fashion) I’d planned to have regular pop ups to continue selling my best loved brands.
… Well we all know about ‘Best laid plans and all that’ ….
It’s always good to review a year, particularly one that’s left its mark like no other.
I’ve learnt a lot this year - Patience, perseverance, living in the moment, appreciating the small stuff.
Recognizing that what I have is enough, that time spent with my teenagers is precious (how lucky to have been able to spend lockdown with them), to have time and space to develop my art (and completing Nick Wilton’s very intensive CVP course).
As a family we welcomed in a new member – Willow the staffy. Walks with friends took on a new pleasure, as did visits to parents, and I gained a new hobby – gardening.
Of course, as soon as we came out of lockdown there was a huge spike in activity and life became busy again. The perfume took over a lot of time in the latter half of the year but we launched it and it’s been receiving rave reviews.
I think I have tendency to take on and do too much so this year my aim is about simplifying and to focus on what I want to do rather than what I think I should be doing.
