So I finally, after a year of postponements, got to take part in my first in person arts trail! It was an absolute blast and a success on so many levels. I exhibited at Stoke Bishop Village Hall with 8 other artists several of whom have been exhibiting with the BS9ers since the very early days so I felt very honoured to be invited to join them.. The weekend of the trial was a glorious day and because this was the first arts trail to have taken place in over 18mothns the whole weekend was extremely well attended.
What I loved most
The opportunity to talk to people about my work. It was a real thrill to have people I didn’t know but my work and tell me that they followed me on social media and kept an eye on my website (note to self - update website on a regular basis!)
What lessons did I learn?
To create better signage - a name plaque, a newsletter sign up sheet. Price my work up before hand. It was too busy to do on the day and people started arriving early so lost the hour before we officially opened to do all those little jobs.
what would I do differently?
Have more work with me. I thought I’d have more than enough work to fill the space - too much. My stand looked good and well curated and people commented on how professional it looked but I noticed that others really packed their work in. I think I could have added more. People came looking for my flower paintings and trees but I hadn’t brought any of them. Next time I’ll have them in a browser.
